Tips for Dating Again

January 4th, 2010

If it’s been awhile since you’ve been in the dating game, you might be feeling a little apprehensive and worried. Dating someone and being in a relationship with someone are polar opposites and each has a different set of boundaries. When dating someone it can be difficult to discern these boundaries. How much can you reveal about yourself and still expect to get a call the next day? Follow my tips below and you’ll slide smoothly into the dating game once again.

  1. Always put your best foot forward. This means that you must look as attractive as possible and you must articulate your ideas and opinions clearly. Try to be friendlier than usual and focus your attentions on engaging the other person in conversation. Avoid speaking about your failures, flaws or past relationships.
  2. Avoid revealing too many of your social ideals, political opinions or religious views at the beginning. These topics should be eased into. Jumping right into them can make you seem harsh and overly opinionated, which can repel the person you are dating.
  3. Take your time and don’t air ride into bed with the other person for at least a month. This may seem old fashioned, but it really is good advice. Sleeping with the other person can cause a lot of confusion. It might derail the direction of the relationship and prevent it from maturing into something more substantial.
  4. Once you’ve started dating someone, keep your dates varied and no more than 3 times per week. You don’t want to exhaust the passion right away and you should still continue to keep up with your own personal interests and pursuits. Never lose your own identity in the dating process.
